Visiting Tulsa

While I would like to start talking about my life now, I feel like I need to continue the story of getting here first. This blog is more of a photo journal. Enjoy and please excuse the poor formatting, it's the best I can do with the server.

Last Day At World Vision
At my desk

Lots of pictures from the airplanes. I LOVE flying and seeing what's out the window!!

Puget Sound

Somewhere over Oregon

I discovered that I now get airsick :( I had no Dramamine so all I could do was drink ginger ale and water and try not to puke.

Denver Airport. The last good part of my trip. While taxiing out to depart, the pilot informed  us that an engine would not engage so we were going back to the terminal to see if the mechanics could easily fix it. They could not. We all deplaned and caught the next flight to DFW. It was too late. I missed my connection to Tulsa. The airline put us up in various motels in Dallas. I had not eaten in 14 hours and was exhausted partially due to all the Dramamine I had taken. I was put up in some awful smoke smelling motel along with a couple of other passengers. Thankfully there was a Denny's across the street so one other guy and myself went there and ate. That was super awkward. Total strangers eating a meal in the middle of the night. Oh well. He was a nice southern gent and all was well. I didn't sleep much that night, especially after a bug appeared on the bed. I also had no clothes or necessities with me so that made it all the more unpleasant. My flight out the next day was at 11 so I got a little bit of restless sleep.

Gotta love Texas! This was a shop in the airport. Mannequins with longhorn cattle heads. LOL!!!

I FINALLY MADE IT TO TULSA!!! My suitcase was sent ahead of me and that was another source of anxiety, hoping that it would actually be there since the airline seemed incompetent. American Airlines, I came to loathe you...

The river below appears totally dry. Somewhere over Texas or Oklahoma.

My hotel!! At last, a day later than I should have been.

Another new side effect of flying: cankles
My hotel room.

Drug Warehouse, I thought that was funny!

Super Target

A very large and colorful  Mexican restaurant.

Fudrucker's

Starbucks!!! Finally!! Strange seeing so few of them!
Chick-fil-a on the left and Quik Trip on the right. QT is a Tulsa based gas station and they are everywhere. They are larger than what I'm used to with probably at least 10 pumps at each one.

Downtown Broken Arrow. They call it BA here. I did a double take and asked someone what they meant when I heard it! BA means something different where I come from! South and east of Tulsa, it is a little more wealthy city.

Rhema

75 mph speed limit and very light colored roads on the highways here.
Note the stoplight missing bits due to weather

Route 66!

There was an authentic English Pub behind the hotel called The White Lion. I loved it and ordered Bangers & Mash and I even ate the peas! I hate peas!

Job hunting duds.

The apartment complex.

Incredible dish at Cheddar's.

The City of Faith as named and built by Oral Roberts. He had to sell it to the city and it is now called CityPlex towers. Tallest building for miles around and I can see it from my apartment complex.
Beautiful old houses in an area called Brookside near downtown.

Whole Foods!!! I feel like I'm in Seattle every time I go.
It rained for a lot of my visit. It was like I had not left the Pacific Northwest at all! This was the view from my hotel room.

 Floorplan of my apartment.
View of the building, mine is the top right.

My building  backs up to Joe Creek. My new neighbors later informed me that they call it the ditch because that's about the extent of water normally in it. In the picture below you can see a bridge on the left which is Riverside Drive. Just beyond that is the Arkansas River. It's a sad river with hardly any water. There has been a drought here for a long time.

I spent some time with my friends Aaron and Rachel who moved to Vinita in July. We visited the Oklahoma Aquarium.
